Distrib. Trade Sales & Manu. Shipments Down 1.3% in January

Washington, DC, March 14, 2024-The combined value of distributive trade sales and manufacturers’ shipments for January was estimated at $1,833.3 billion, down 1.3% from December 2023 and was down 1.2% from January 2023, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

Manufacturers’ and trade inventories for January were estimated at an end-of-month level of $2,555.0 billion, virtually unchanged from December 2023, but were up 0.4% from January 2023.

The total business inventories/sales ratio based on seasonally adjusted data at the end of January was 1.39. The January 2023 ratio was 1.37.
