Chain Store Sales Up, Cooler Weather Helps

New York, NY, Sept. 9, 2009–The ICSC-Goldman Sachs chain store sales index for the week ending Sept. 5 rose by 0.6% from the prior week, which continued its up-down volatility that has dominated the sales profile over the last seven weeks.

On a year-over-year basis, sales were down 0.1%. A confluence of cooler weather for the week than last year and later back-to-school shopping, in parts of the country, helped drive customer traffic somewhat and sales.
