Boston, MA, Oct. 15, 2010–Federal Reserve Board Chairman Ben Bernanke on Friday said that high unemployment and a low inflation environment would probably continue into next year.
Bernanke said those factors create a “case for further action” on the monetary policy front. He said the Fed might expand its holdings of longer-term securities but provided few other details.
He also said another step the Fed might consider is to strengthen its pledge to keep rates low for an extended period.
