September Retail Sales Below Estimates

New York, NY, Oct. 5, 2012 — U.S. retailers’ September comparable store sales edged up 0.8%, below the 1.6% average estimate of analysts surveyed by Thomson Reuters.

More than half of the retailers reporting sales missed Wall Street’s consensus expectations.

Those selling more discretionary items appeared to take the biggest hit.
