New York, NY, March 12, 2015—Lumber Liquidators, which is facing U.S. government probes over claims of dangerous levels of formaldehyde in its flooring products, will offer free indoor air quality testing for its consumers. However, OSHA’s thresholds for formaldehyde in the workplace are not as stringent as California Air Resource Board’s (CARB) for the home.
According to Kip Howlett, president of the Hardwood, Plywood and Veneer Association, the OSHA permissible exposure limit is 0.5ppm with a 2ppm short term exposure limit, whereas the CARB numbers are 0.05 and 0.13ppm, significantly below OSHA.
The tests will be conducted by a third party, and the company has promised additional tests if the results are above acceptable thresholds.
