New Single-Family Home Sales Surge

Washington, DC, Feb. 26, 2014 — Sales of new single-family rose 9.6% in January to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 468,000, the fastest pace in more than five years, according to the Commerce Department.

Economists had expected a January sales rate of 405,000.

December’s original 414,000 was revised higher to 427,000.
