New York, NY, Jan. 15, 2014 — Manufacturing activity in the New York region was stronger than expected in January, according to the Empire State manufacturing index.
The index rose to 12.5 in January, substantially better than the 2.2 reading in December.
The gain was well above economists’ expectations for a reading of 4.
