Report: Fire Guts Oakland Flooring Retailer

Oakland, CA, October 2, 2006–Some 65 firefighters continue to battle a five-alarm blaze burning in an Oakland warehouse at 2828 Ford St. and a nearby building, the fire department reports.

The fast-moving blaze was reported at 3:24 a.m., according to a fire department dispatcher, at the Straus Carpet Co. on Ford Street and 23rd Avenue.

That building has been destroyed, the fire department reports, and a nearby metal polishing company also containing recording equipment is ablaze as well.
