Retail Sales Strong in March

Washington, DC, April 16, 2012 — Retail sales rose more than expected in March, according to the Commerce Department.

The 0.8% increase was nearly three times more than expected and followed a 1% gain in February.

Consumers spent more last month on building materials, autos, electronics, furniture and clothing.
