Shaw Cutting Jobs at Alabama Plant

Andalusia, AL, October 4, 2007–Shaw Industries will lay off employees at its plant in Andalusia, Alabama, according to reports. The exact number of workers affected was not disclosed. About 1,300 people work at the south Alabama facility.

According to a report in a local newspaper, company said most of the reductions will be made through attrition. The company said current economic conditions, including a slow down in the housing market, prompted the decision.

Reports also said that layoffs also are planned at 70 other plants operated by the company.
