Shaw Cutting Jobs at LaFayette Nylon Plant

LaFayette, GA, June 5, 2008–Shaw Industries said it is laying off 50 people at its plant in LaFayette, reducing its workforce to 460.

The company said that innovation in the plant’s pre-dyed and space-dyed nylon manufacturing, as well as weak demand from a soft housing market, are forcing the job cuts.

Last week Shaw announced the complete closure of its plant in Stevenson, Ala. leaving about 400 people there out of work.
